When you are looking for an elephant conservation center, Thailand has plenty available, and there is an excellent one in Phuket if you visit there on holiday. You can spend a day with these majestic pachyderms, learn all the stories, and ensure you and your family have a fantastic time. Below is what you can expect when you visit an elephant jungle sanctuary, so you know what to expect and can prepare yourself to have a wonderful time with these beautiful animals.
An Early Start
The collection of guests is usually between 6:30 am, and 7:30 am, depending on where you are staying in Phuket. You will get collected in a VIP minibus and be transported to the sanctuary.
Arriving At The Park
Arrival at the park is usually around 8 am, where you will be warmly greeted by the staff and offered refreshments of tea or coffee and a light snack. You will then receive an introduction to the program offered at the sanctuary. You will get more information about the park and the animals they look after before heading off into the jungle to meet the herd.
A Quick Bite To Eat
Before you meet the herd, at around 11 am you will be given a traditional Thai meal, with plenty of options available, and once you have eaten, you will help prepare the food for the elephants and include the dietary supplements they require. Once complete, it is time to meet the elephants and give them their favourite foods while you get to know them.
Interacting With The Elephants
In the early afternoon you will get to feed the elephants and ensure they are full, before watching them play and interacting with them. It is an excellent time to get plenty of pictures so ensure you have a camera ready.
Time For A Batch
At around 2 pm, the herd enjoys their mud bath, which you can observe as they enjoy themselves and play in the mud, but be careful, as you may get muddy. After their mud bath, at about 2:30 pm, they will head down to the water for a swim, where you can watch them.
Getting Them Clean
After enjoying the water, they head back for a shower, where you can help scrub them clean, which is an activity they love. After they are clean, it is time to clean yourself before making your way back to the park entrance and jumping on your minibus to go back to your accommodation.
