There is no doubt that craft beer tastes fantastic and yet many of us feel bad when we consume a glass or two in the evening after a hard day’s work. We are constantly reading articles in magazines and newspapers telling us that craft beer consumption is bad for your health and it should be avoided at all times. These scare stories are in fact not true and like everything in life, if you drink in moderation then it can have positive health benefits.

This is why many people drink craft beer in New Zealand because they already know about the exceptional health benefits that it offers. If you are still a little in the dark when it comes to knowing about these then maybe the following can help to illuminate you somewhat.

  1. It helps you live longer – This might sound contrary to everything that you have ever heard before about craft beer, but if you drink in moderation then you will find that it is good for your health. The figures are in and studies tell us that people who drink moderately tend to live longer than those that don’t drink at all. By having a beer or two once in a while, you’re helping to lower your stress and anxiety levels and this is definitely good for your overall health.
  2. Totally natural ingredients – Modern beer brewers use many essential vitamins and natural ingredients to create the best tasting craft beer available. The thing to understand is that beer doesn’t contain any preservatives because the alcohol and the hops used in the brewing process are natural preservatives and so these help to keep it fresh and tasty.
  3. It helps when dieting – Believe it or not but beer contains a lot less calories than many people would have you believe. When you have a glass of milk or orange juice in the morning for breakfast, you are consuming the same amount of calories that a glass of beer would provide. A glass of milk or beer just doesn’t really hit the spot when you are trying to relax after a hard week’s work at the office.

Craft beer also helps you as an individual to become more sociable and it gives you an opportunity to organise some food with friends and family so that everyone can catch up. It is part of our culture here in Australia and alongside a barbecue and good friends, an ice-cold glass of craft beer really does hit the spot.
